Solar Energy Fontiers for the 21st Century

Mankind and Solar Energy Technology

The race to cut down on greenhouse emissions across the globe is still on with mixed results. Why a number of countries have taken decisive steps to institute clean energy sources, others still lag behind.

According to the CEO of Solar One, Mike Robins, deploying solar energy in power industrial processes and home energy needs, is a step that needs to be prioritized. Already, investment in biomass and solar have resulted from advocacy campaigns across the globe.

Where a paradigm shift needs to be advocated is in the building of renewable energy power plants and to sustain it in order to gradually eliminate fossil fueled energy generators across the globe. While this comes with its own challenge in terms of funding and sustainability, it is not unrealizable according to Mike Robins.

The avalanche of thermal, nuclear and hydro-electric driven power stations across the world will require substantial investment. A phased replacement and restriction in new stations of this type is feasible if well-coordinated and financed. Solar energy stands out as the cheapest source of energy with its low procurement and installation cost.

Generating Solar Energy

Solar energy derives its raw material from the sun and becomes harnessed when photovoltaic or solar-powered panel converts sun rays through light photons to electrify silicon –cell electrons. Energy from this source can provide power to households, industrial complexes and be deployed as a back –up for energy efficiency.

Photovoltaic systems are made of components that include a metering box dedicated for that purpose, with a capacity to measure the units of energy generated. This according to Mike Robinson, is an uncomplicated process and easy to install.

There are schemes across the country presently that gives the owners of any solar energy system an incentive whenever power is generated and a bonus for each unit that is generated but unused. The unused units provide a feedstock to the national grid and help to stabilize the country’s energy supply capacity.

Helpful Savings from Solar Energy

Mike Robins drew attention to credible reports that shows that a Florida homeowner is able to save at least $30,000 over a period of 20 years if he switches to solar power systems. This will attract a cost of $25,000 for complete installation. While the cost varies from state to state, the potential for savings are clearly credible and justified.

Statewide incentives might differ depending on where you are, but the known cost of solar power generation and maintenance is lower in both material terms and cost to the environment.

Corporate institutions are offering an array of incentives to promote solar power installation and procurement across the country, and this to Mike Robins, is one step in the right direction. To many people, disrupting the way of life in many industries is the new norm.
